There is a lot about COVID that we don't know yet, much more than we do know. Here, I will try to inform you so that you are more aware without all of the myths and fake news.

How COVID-19 Spreads

COVID is mostly spread through droplets, which is a medical term that means it is spread by respiratory secretions from a sneeze, cough, singing, talking, or even breathing. You can contract it by direct contact, such as being coughed or sneezed on directly, or secondary contact, such as touching a desk that someone sneezed on and then touching your eyes, mouth or nose.

It can also be contracted by airborne means such as with inadequate ventilation (How Coronavirus Spreads | CDC).

Can COVID Be Spread Through an HVAC System?

It is not known whether COVID-19 can be spread through an air conditioning or heating system at this time but it is most likely to be contracted by airborne means if the ventilation isn't adequate and if the person is more susceptible (COVID-19 basics - Harvard Health).

COVID-19 Precautions To Take With Your HVAC System

Don't worry, there are many things you can do to combat the spread of COVID-19 in your home or at your business. If you want to be safe, we recommend purchasing a HEPA filter for your AC/Heating unit to greatly reduce the amount of bacteria and viruses in your air. If you have a HEPA filter or not, you should change your filter, at least, monthly. Dirty filters don't filter that well and just spread dust, viruses, mold, and bacteria!

If you really want to stick it to COVID (and most bacteria, mold, and viruses), you can purchase a UV light for your HVAC system, have it installed (or install it yourself) in your duct work, and live worry free. This kills most bacteria, mold, and viruses in your heating and air conditioning system before it is circulated around your home.

Since it is not completely known if an AC can spread the virus, it would be best to take precaution before it becomes a problem, it helps clean your air regardless so it is a win-win.
